New car quotes can be hard to break down. There are several factors involved in new car quotes. Knowing what goes into the car quote will give you more power when it comes to buying a car. Here’s what you should know about new car quotes.

Suggestions by the Manufacturer

The first thing that is taken in to account is the price the manufacturer sets for the vehicle. This is based on several things. The amount the manufacturer actually had to spend to build the car, the manpower required and shipping costs are always included. On top of that the manufacturer will look at past trends and set a price that they feel they can get for the vehicle. This number becomes known as the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, or MSRP. This is the price that you can find in advertisements directly from the manufacturer and on their websites.

Market Conditions

Some areas of the country will see different trends regarding car popularity. In congested areas the trends tend to swing to compact vehicles being popular. In large industrial areas you may see more of a focus on trucks. Areas that are populated with families may see more SUV’s and vans. The demand for vehicles changes based on your location. This can increase the cost of the vehicle. If there is a waiting list for a vehicle, you can expect to forget about the MSRP price altogether. In these instances you should check places like Kelley Blue Book to get a more accurate price for a new car. With the blue book listings you will have to input your zip code to find the average price in your area, so this will take the market conditions in to account.

Dealer Mark-Ups

The dealerships won’t place the wholesale price of the car on the sticker. This would be silly since they are in business to make money. However, most dealers will mark the car up as much as 25% over the price they pay. You can look out for some of these things and work on the negotiation from there. Optional equipment like the paint job, stereo system upgrades, anti-theft systems and interior upgrades can all increase the quote on the car. If you don’t need those things then opt for a model without a lot of upgrades.

Understanding what goes into the new car quote can help you save money on a new car purchase. Know how the quotes are calculated, and know what you can negotiate on and you will be in a better position to purchase a car with in your budget.
